Against a legend... v2 by ArtofOkan Against a legend... v2 by ArtofOkan
A new version of an old painting of mine: [link]
I worked on it some more, tried to make the overall composition better.

I hope you like it :)
Ps CS6, bamboo tablet.

Edit: Added a light source, and some details. Tried to give it more depth.
Edit02: I gave the dragon some more detail.

Beautiful illustration. Full of color and detail in the climates of heroic fantasy. I like it. I'd like to get as vivid colors.

Things I love about this painting: the chicks clothing & hair, nice round haunches indicating a fair amount of musculature, lacy sandal straps, foreground greenery that offsets the color scheme just a touch brings depth of field, the rock face of the cliff where the dragon is - crushing & in-scalable, the composition of the dragon (scary as hell), and the celestial body that is breaking through the clouds, the barrenness of the entire scene.

Now for a touch of questioning: are there 2 light source, I assume this is possible due to the fantasy nature of the image? Is it possible to give just a bit more contrast in the cloud layers? and lastly, while the composition of the dragon is off the charts, can a bit more detail be added to bring him into focus as the main adversary in this forsaken location?

I love your work man, keep excelling! I get to do the happy dance when I see you work pop up in my box!

Thank you so much for this nice comment, my friend. About the light sources, yeah, there are two light sources in the scene. You're also right about the dragon, it needs some more detail. I'm giving it more detail now, I hope it will get better. Clouds have enough detail and contrast in my opininon.
Thanks for your kind words man, greatly appreciated :)

Right now the focus is on the rock (that's where my eye goes first) If the rock was less detailed and dark (pretty much if it changed places with the dragon) and the dragon was lighter and had more detail, it would be immensely better. Right now there's too many details in too many unimportant places imo.
I know I come off as condescending but you of all people should know I mean well ;)

I know Marv :) Thanks for your help man.. Don't know what to do. Some people said the rocks need to be detailed, left side need to be detailed and such. So I did. Dragon needs to become the focus point again, you're right. But I don't know how to do it. Things you recommend seem plausible, I'll try that, we'll see what happens.

Okan, here I wanted to clarify a point if you pardon me diving right into this thread :) I've made some comments before regarding the left side, but I was talking about the style which looked different, especially at the fog contours; and with the latest changes these are gone. Now maybe the rock looks more realistic/detailed in some places than the girl and the dragon which I think what your friend is mentioning. The composition is quite good for me, but the focus problem of the dragon (which I think also exists in the previous version) can be worked out to further enhance it. I don't now how though, maybe by introducing some hot colors instead of pure black :eyes:

No problem bro, It's just that the time is running out fast and I fear I won't be able to make it before the deadline. I'm happy that you value my works and try to help me. That's what every painter wants :) If only I had some more time... The parts you pointed out made this picture better. Its just that, now that I gave those poarts more detail, I have to add more detail to my dragon to keep the balance of the picture. But this will make this painting even more good.
So, I want to clarify again that I have no problem with your "diving right into this thread" :)Thank you so much for your help and for your support. both are very valuable to me now and in the future :)

Making the rocks darker doesn't make the picture better.. so I need to give the dragon some more light and contrast and detail... :D More work, more work. And here I was thinking recycling old paintings will not take much time so that I can make 5 pieces before the deadline :D So much for that, more sleepless nights...

I need to finish 3 more paintings before 15th October. That's the deadline for ImagineFX's "rising stars" competition. So I need to move on to other works, can't sped much more time on this piece. But, I'll reduce the detail level on the rocks. You're right, I shouldn't listen to everyone :)This way a painting takes much more time for me, and never finishes...

Move on by any means man, if there's time you will be able to come back and do some final fixing. You can do it! Choose your pieces wisely though, not to overwhelm yourself if possible :)

This is High Fantasy, I don't know why artist think that this cartoony look passes for photorealism. but the skill is there since I am a working professional now I can say that this is great. The layers are easy to get with a tablet and it ,makes for great stuff. This needs to be converted to vector format and the layers need to be refined for photo realism, using shadows is great but it doesn't pass for photorealistic shadows today.
:) keep trying

I didn't ssay anything about photorealism. I'm not trying to give it photorealistic look or anything. And it doesn't need to be converted to to vector format.
